GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH
Crispy on the outside, melty on the inside — this grilled cheese sandwich is a timeless favorite made with golden buttered bread and perfectly melted cheese. Great on its own or paired with tomato soup, it's a quick and satisfying meal for any season.
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 5–6 minutes
Total time: About 10 minutes
Servings: Makes 1 sandwich (scale as needed)
Ingredients:
- 2 slices of sandwich bread (sourdough, white, or whole wheat)
- 1 to 2 tablespoons butter (softened or melted)
- 2 to 3 slices of cheese (cheddar, American, Swiss, or your favorite)
Instructions:
- Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.
- Place cheese slices between the unbuttered sides of the bread, with the buttered sides facing out.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwich in the pan and cook for 2–3 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted.
- Slice in half and enjoy warm, optionally with tomato soup or a crisp salad.
Tips:
- Use a lid while grilling to help the cheese melt faster.
- Add extras like tomato slices, or caramelized onions for a twist.
- Try mixing cheeses for more flavor depth — sharp cheddar with mozzarella works well.
